BOBBE SCHAFER
Memories from The Past
...A Look at the History of Aprons
from the 1940s to the 1970s
Folk art historian Bobbe Schafer will share with you her
collection of vintage aprons.
"In seventh grade, in a sewing class, we made aprons and caps to use in eighth grade when we took cooking. The apron was of organdy with ruffled caps over the shoulders of the straps and a little cap too with an extra piece that turned up and all starched."  -From my Grandmother's memoirs.
Bobbe Schafer has been an interpretive naturalist, a librarian, and now a designer and creator of aprons. She has a large collection of patterns and
over one hundred aprons from the past.

If we listen to the stories that aprons tell, we can learn about women's historical roles, fashion trends and twentieth century American culture.

Using slides of vintage apron styles and her collection of historical aprons,
Bobbe will share with you the joys of this American folk art.

She has created memorable presentations for retirement communities,
assisted living facilities, libraries, women’s groups, quilting and sewing guilds.
